100 new jobs to be created as CJK acquires McGrattan & Kenny to form €45m M&E engineering group

Following discussions between the owners of two of Ireland’s best-known engineering companies, CJK has acquired McGrattan & Kenny and will form a new mechanical & electrical engineering services group to compete in the rapidly expanding sector. The formation of the new group will create an additional 100 new jobs over three years, bringing the total complement to 360 people by 2024.

Murdocks complete acquisition of Brooks Group following receipt of CCPC approval

Murdock Builders Merchants (“Murdocks”), the Newry headquartered timber suppliers and builders’ merchants, has completed the transaction to acquire Brooks Group (“Brooks”) following clearance from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission. Brooks, which has been acquired from Welsh-based Premier Forest Products Group, comprises Brooks Builders Merchants and Dublin Plywood and Veneer (“DPV”).

Construction activity ramped up in June following loosening of restrictions

The Ulster Bank Construction Purchasing Managers’ Index® (PMI®) – a seasonally adjusted index designed to track changes in total construction activity – remained well above the 50.0 no-change mark in June 2021, posting 65.0 following a reading of 66.4 in May. Activity increased for the second month running following the full reopening of the sector and at one of the strongest rates since the survey began 21 years ago. Index readings above 50 signal an increase in activity on the previous month, and readings below 50 signal a decrease.

Kirby Group Engineering announces 300 new jobs

Kirby Group Engineering has announced plans to create 300 new jobs as part of a significant expansion to meet the demand for its services in Ireland and across Europe.
The family-founded, privately-owned company says the new jobs will include engineering, commercial, operations and administrative staff, with recruitment for many of these roles already underway. As part of this recruitment drive, Kirby is looking to attract almost 100 people to be deployed across its hugely successful apprenticeship scheme and graduate programme.
Kirby has also announced a significant structural investment, comprising a €2m plan to upgrade its company headquarters in Co Limerick. The company currently employs over 1,200 people, with 200 new employees having joined during 2020.

Sisk certified as a carbon-neutral business

John Sisk & Son has reached the first milestone in its 2030 Sustainability Roadmap by being certified as a carbon-neutral business.
Sisk achieved certification under the Achilles Carbon Reduce Programme in early 2021 by having its 2019 baseline and 2020 carbon footprint externally verified. As well as achieving a reduction in carbon emissions during 2020, Sisk has also offset their outstanding emissions through internationally verified carbon reduction projects.
