Dornan has donated €15,000 to three Irish charities following its second annual Sean Kelly Charity Cycle, held on 18 June at Fota Golf Club, Cork. The event brought together employees, clients, suppliers, family, and friends to support Down Syndrome Limerick, Breast Cancer Ireland and The Shine Centre for Autism, with each charity receiving a €5,000 donation.
Participants had the choice of a 30km route or a longer 70km route, which was shortened to approximately 56km due to the weather conditions. Despite wet weather throughout much of the day, participation remained high, with many riders who had originally planned to complete the shorter route choosing to continue on and finish the full route.
Irish cycling legend Sean Kelly joined participants throughout the cycle, riding alongside them before hosting a Q&A session that evening. The event also welcomed Velo Performance, a youth cycling team sponsored by Dornan, highlighting the company’s ongoing support for developing young talent both within the construction industry and the wider community.
The three charities were selected because of the meaningful support they have provided to Dornan employees and their families. The donations will contribute towards the charities’ continued work supporting individuals and communities across Ireland.
Speaking about the event, Dornan’s Group managing director Micheál O’Connor said, “This event is important to us because it brings together a number of things that reflect who we are as a company. First and foremost, it’s about supporting charities that have made a real difference to our employees and their families. It’s also about wellbeing and recognising that there’s more to life than work.
“As an Irish business operating internationally, we believe it’s important to become part of the communities where we work and to give something back. Being able to bring together employees, clients, suppliers, family, and friends for a day like this, while supporting three outstanding charities, is something of which we’re incredibly proud.”
This was the second consecutive year Dornan has organised the Sean Kelly Charity Cycle, with the event continuing to grow in participation and support. The company intends to build on its success in the years ahead as part of its ongoing commitment to employee wellbeing, community engagement, and charitable giving.
