The team at Irish Construction News would like to pass on our congratulations to  Construction Information Services (CIS), which celebrated its 50th year in business on 18 May.

Started in 1972, the company’s founder, Paddy Hayes, was a regular visitor to planning offices to ‘dig out’ opportunities from planning applications for a mechanical and electrical firm he was working for. He saw an opportunity to provide this information to others and the rest, as they say, is history.

CIS still retains customers from those early days, and one of its most valued clients, John Paul Construction, was the first customer of the “CIS Report”.

“John Paul Construction are members of CIS since its foundation in 1972 and continue to use the CIS System as the Industry leading source of reliable and quality information. Our long relationship is testament to CIS for their continued innovation and excellent quality of service.” John Paul Construction Associate Director, Liam Casey

Over the years, CIS has endured recessions and changes to ownership, and it has weathered much adversity. Despite this, the company has remained resilient through innovation and the loyalty of our customers.

CIS online services

Today’s CIS would be unrecognisable to its founders and has moved from hard copy publications to a fully interactive, online service providing real time, advanced information on opportunities and trusted market analysis.

It is significant and appropriate that this year has been one of the most momentous in its history. CIS’s long-time owner and MD for over 25 years, Tom Moloney, retired after guiding the company to unprecedented success. The company was bought over by Glenigan UK, part of the Swedish Byggfakta Group, who saw the opportunity to add a real gem to their portfolio.

“When looking to expand and enrich our service further into the Irish markets, CIS was the obvious choice of company to acquire. They are an established and trusted brand in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and emulate the Glenigan ethos of providing the very best service possible for their customers. Glenigan is looking forward to welcoming the CIS team to the Glenigan family and to building on our joint expertise to deliver the most robust and dependable service that our customers can rely on,” Glenigan Chief Executive Victoria McEwen.

This acquisition affords CIS, its team, and its customers the opportunity to accelerate exciting plans for the future and to avail of the wealth of experience of the wider group of related companies. Former CIS Managing Director Tom Moloney said. “Joining Glenigan and the Byggfakta Group will accelerate CIS’s vision to be the leading authority on business intelligence for construction activity in Ireland.”

CIS today

Today, CIS has offices in Sandyford and Banbridge and boasts customers from across the globe and across all sectors of the economy and is often referred to as the ‘The Bible of the construction industry’.
