Established in 1964, Kirby Group Engineering is a values-driven business that has taken pride in providing quality and value for its clients for over 55 years.
A family-founded, privately-owned company, Kirby provides complete mechanical and electrical contracting services. The company also provides specialist high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) design and construction services.
Despite the challenges of the global pandemic in 2020, Kirby delivered a turnover of €293m. The engineering contractor now employs over 1,200 people, with 200 new employees joining throughout 2020. Eighty of these new hires were apprentices.
In mid-2021, Kirby announced plans to create 300 additional jobs as demand for its services grew in Ireland and Europe. Kirby has also undertaken a €2m upgrade of its headquarters in Co Limerick to keep pace with the predicted growth.
Mark Flanagan, Group Managing Director, Kirby, has navigated the recent global crisis for the company. Despite the ongoing challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, under his stewardship, 2021 is set to be another highly successful year for the company.
Mark Flanagan says: “Our clients like our honesty, integrity and our values-based approach. Our success with key clients and winning repeat business has been driven by consistent delivery and ensuring no surprises. Every day we aim to deliver innovation through synchronised world-class engineering and operational excellence.
“We have a solid reputation of trust and integrity, and this trust has been earned by consistently delivering on our promise, going the extra mile, and being a values-driven business. Our core values of people, safety, quality, delivery and value are central to what we are as a business, and there is a clear link between our core values and our success.”
While Kirby has been performing well in all of its sectors, the most significant growth has been in data centres. It has invested heavily to build its specialist data centre engineering and commissioning expertise.
Kirby has established a strong foothold in Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. The company is also expanding its offering into several additional countries across Europe amid further development plans.
Kirby’s portfolio of recent projects includes several large-scale data centres for confidential clients, as well as works for Phibro Animal Healthcare in Co Sligo, and a shell and core commercial Cat A fit-out of an Arkle Road office building in Dublin, amongst others. Within the HV/MV division, Kirby has recently delivered the electrical works on the new IFA2 HVDC interconnector in England and several substations in Scotland, including at Currie, Wishaw and Strathaven.
