The early morning Breakfast Briefings at Architecture + Building Expo (Wednesday 07 and Thursday 08 October) are now one of the highlights of the overall programme. The format comprises a keynote Facilitator and a small panel of industry figureheads representing all the disciplines in construction.
The emphasis is on interactive engagement rather than separate speaker delivery, a process that also includes significant audience participation. These sessions are also sector inclusive and involve a collaboration between the RIAI, SEAI, CIBSE Ireland and other professional and contracting bodies.
There are two Breakfast Briefings this year

Simplified BER – Experience so far (Thursday, 8 October).
Briefing 01: Maximising MMC Adoption Wednesday 07 October 8.30 AM
Modern methods of construction (MMC) is an umbrella term for innovative building techniques that shift processes from traditional onsite construction to factory-based manufacturing and digital engineering.
That said, there are many misconceptions – and some challenges –with regard to the widespread adoption of MMC. This Breakfast Briefing at Architecture + Building Expo is designed to highlight and discuss these challenges, and to identify a positive route forward to maximising the benefits MMC offers.
Facilitator Pat Kirwan, Associate Director, Head of Industrialised Design and Construction, Reddy Architecture and President of the European Association for Industrialised Construction will oversee a panel discussion between industry representatives including, Paul Tighe, Partner, Ethos and Vice-Chair, CIBSE Ireland; Paul Tierney, CEO, MMC Ireland; Denise Murray, Partner at Metropolitan Workshop Ireland and Design Fellow at UCD School of Architecture; and Brian Kennedy, Managing Director, Vision Built Ireland and President, Smart Offsite Association, CIF. There will also be a Q&A session.

Simplified BER – Experience so far Thursday 08 October 8.30 AM
It is now nearly six months since the new Simplified Building Energy Rating (BER) scale for both domestic and non-domestic properties came into effect. This specially-convened BER Breakfast Briefing at Architecture + Building Expo will review its impact to date, identify the challenges encountered, facilitate information sharing, and identify positive learning outcomes.
Facilitator Michael Curran, CIBSE Ireland and Acting Director – Capital Projects Funding, Delivery and Governance at SOLAS, will oversee a panel discussion between Patrycja Kochaniuk, Sustainability Lead, Scott Tallon Walker Architects; Joe Durkan, Head of Technical, National Retrofit, SEAI; and Stephen McGovern, Chair, BER Assessors Association. There will also be a Q&A session.
