Townmore Construction was established in Tullamore, Co Offaly, in 2008 by the Screeney family. Over the past 13 years, the company has become an international contracting business with offices in Dublin, Cork, London and its headquarters in Tullamore.
With over 100 staff members, Townmore is carrying out prestigious projects across Ireland and the UK.
Townmore has a strong reputation in numerous sectors, including residential, hospitality, healthcare, education and specialist cleanroom construction.
Townmore established its specialist cleanroom division in 2017. This division has developed a strong offering, with many multinationals now repeat clients.
In recent years, Townmore has delivered the entire refurbishment of the five-star Conrad Hotel, Maldron Hotel, Mont Hotel in Dublin, and more recently, the newly established REZz hotel in Cork.
The contractor also specialises in primary care construction, delivering centres in Balbriggan and Tullamore, with a further two underway in Cobh and Roscrea.
With over 1,000 residential units underway, Townmore has a strong reputation for the delivery of houses and apartments across the country, working for large private clients, including Lioncor, Bartra and Bluemont, as well as local authorities.
James Godley, Managing Director, Townmore, says that 2020 and 2021 have been and continue to be extremely challenging.
“There have been multiple external factors, including Covid-19, Brexit, material shortages, labour shortages and input price increases, that have been challenging. But we have worked to ensure both our staff and supply chain partners are adequately resourced with the best talent and materials to deliver for clients. We continue our sustainable growth trajectory with the assistance of many repeat clients.”
Covid-19 has presented a complex and multifaceted challenge for Townmore.
“We are extremely grateful to both our own staff and our supply chain partners for working tirelessly to ensure our sites and offices are safe and that all appropriate measures are in place and standard operating procedures are adhered to and upheld,” James Godley continues. “We have managed to mitigate the threat with very few cases across our many sites.”
Covid-19 has provided Townmore with opportunities to review how it undertakes tasks in the office and across its sites.
“It has allowed us to create efficiencies, to drive forward a lean construction agenda and to lessen time wasted in unnecessary meetings,” James Godley adds. “On a whole, our company has increased efficiency in delivery, which in turn benefits our clients.”
Information technology has become one of Townmore’s strongest assets across the business.
“Each department in the company has embraced digital construction.” James Godley explains. “For example, the introduction of PROCORE and Microsoft 365, along with design tools that include REVIT and BIM, has allowed us to progress with our clients and deliver projects more effectively and efficiently.
“Digital construction is no longer just the future but very much in the present. All companies need to embrace it and bring enthusiasm to its rollout.”
The contractor has invested heavily in the use of modular and offsite construction methodologies to mitigate skills shortages.
