A graduate of UCC’s Honours Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering has been named Young Professional of the Year by the European Federation of Engineering Consultancy Associations (EFCA).  Copenhagen-based Anne Moloney, 33, of Danish company Ramboll, has been rewarded for her work over the past three and a half years on the Queensferry Crossing.

Originally from Bishopstown, Cork, Anne has been working with her 35-strong team on the project, one of the largest bridge projects in Northern Europe and the largest civil engineering project in Scotland for a generation. The structure will be the longest three-tower cable-stayed bridge in the world and also the largest to feature over crossing stays mid-span.

After completing her MSc in in Advanced Structural Engineering at Imperial College London, Anne dedicated herself to working on bridge projects, and spent six years at the Irish consultancy Roughan & O’Donovan before joining Ramboll in Copenhagen in 2011. She worked as project manager on one of Ramboll’s most complex projects, the €2 billion Forth Crossing Bridge project in Scotland.

Søren Brøndum, Senior Director, Transport at Ramboll, describes Anne as:

“the type of engineer who is able to accomplish almost anything she puts her mind to, because of her technical abilities, her project management skills and her personality. At 33, she is tremendously talented and I believe she will go very far in this industry.”

On her win, Anne Moloney, Project Manager in the International Bridges Department, Transport said:

“I am delighted and honoured to receive this prestigious award. I am grateful to Ramboll for the opportunities afforded to me by working on the Queensferry Crossing project, and also for acknowledging my personal commitment by nominating me.”

Anne said the award and the recognition of the immense task that is the Queensferry Crossing project “would not have been possible without the dedication, support and talent of my colleagues on the project.”

“My undergraduate degree in UCC developed my interest in bridges, where I did my final year project on the rehabilitation of masonry arch bridges and gave me a comprehensive technical foundation to enable me to commence my career in the design of bridges.”
