CIF Networking Event – National Children’s Hospital Monday, 15 January
15 January @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Construction Industry Federation is hosting a networking event with guest speaker Richard Fitzpatrick, Director for Programme Management and Project Controls for the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board making a presentation about the new National Children’s Hospital.
National Children’s Hospital Shared Campus
The new National Children’s Hospital, on a campus shared with St James’s Hospital, along with the satellite centres at Connolly Hospital and Tallaght Hospital providing paediatric outpatient and urgent care, is the most significant capital investment project ever undertaken in healthcare in Ireland. It will bring together the clinical and support staff from the three existing children’s hospitals (Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin, Temple Street Children’s University Hospital and the National Children’s Hospital at Tallaght) into a state of the art, purpose-built facility, which will not only mean a significant improvement in the working environment for staff, but it will also enable enhanced collaboration between clinical disciplines and deliver better outcomes for children.
A World-Class Facility
The new National Children’s Hospital will be a world-class facility providing specialist services for the country as a whole and with the satellite centres, secondary paediatric services for the greater Dublin area. The hospital will be completed in 2022, with the outpatient and urgent care centre at Connolly opening in 2019 and Tallaght in 2020. The hospital will be co-located on one campus with St James’s Hospital and in time, tri-located with The Coombe Maternity Hospital. This tri-location model of service delivery is being undertaken to ensure the best outcomes for our sickest children and young people, for high-risk mothers and infants.
Following completion of the procurement process, the contracts were signed in August 2017, and the construction of the new Children’s Hospital and the two outpatient and urgent care centres are well underway and currently on programme.
First CIF Networking Evening of 2018
The first CIF networking evening of 2018 will see Richard Fitzpatrick providing an overview of the key objectives of the project, in particular how the project has been structured and setup to support successful delivery of the project’s vision which is “to be one of the finest hospitals in the world”.
He will explain the innovative approach that was taken in developing the procurement strategy and how this has been reflected in the contracting arrangements and how the project will contribute to the regeneration of the surrounding area.
Given the size, scale and complexity of the new National Children’s Hospital, Richard Fitzpatrick will also outline the level of engagement and consultation that has been taken place with stakeholders and will explain how the project is looking to adopt Lean Thinking and practices, including the principle of collaboration, to ensure the successful delivery of the new Children’s Hospital, the most significant healthcare investment ever undertaken by the State.
A questions and answers session will follow, and attendees will also have the opportunity to discuss industry issues with peers from all sectors.
