CIF DONEGAL BRANCH AND DONEGAL ETB JOIN FORCES WITH CONSTRUCTION GROUND WORK SKILLS PROGRAMME

CIF Donegal Branch

The CIF Donegal Branch and Donegal Education and Training Board (ETB) Further Education & Training (FET) Service have joined forces to further develop the ETB’s ‘Construction Ground Work Skills’ training programme, offering participants on the course the opportunity to gain work experience on construction sites in Donegal while also addressing the current skill needs of local employers.

A number of participants have already completed their training and gained on-site work experience with CIF Donegal Branch members operating in the region.

Participant Qualifications

The programme provides participants with the knowledge, skills and competence to construct concrete slabs and paths and to lay kerbs, flags and paviors under various conditions. Participants who successfully complete the course will achieve a Special Purpose Level 4 Award in Construction Ground Work Skills and will be eligible to seek employment as Construction Operatives. They should also be able to demonstrate knowledge of the construction industry environment, Practice safe manual handling techniques and correct operation procedures for small plant and machinery.

They should be able to demonstrate that they can work on construction sites without being a risk to themselves or to others. Successful participants will be able to lay, fix and join a range of kerbs/flags/paviors in a safe and efficient manner; mix concrete using a diesel concrete mixer; transport, place, compact and finish concrete using hand float/trowel and power float., and plan and achieve realistic work goals.
